Meet Your Provider

Janelle Aguilon, APN
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

No more medical confusion.

Start fresh with a
down-to-earth approach for
genuine, long-term healing.

I’m a Colorado-based medical provider that sees child (6+) and adult patients for mental health evaluations and medication management. I treat a wide variety of mental health conditions and I specialize in children, young adults, and trauma/PTSD.

I’m an expert in psychiatry with 10+ years of healthcare experience and an additional degree in social work to support holistic care. Let me support you as a whole person, not just the medications that you take.

Let’s be real. You’re the expert in a lot of things, but likely not in psychiatry. Let me guide you through this complex world of medical mental health so that you can focus on yourself and what you need to do in life

Care with me is an opportunity to be real with what’s bothering you, understand what treatment options are available to you in a conversation that you can actually understand, and have a well informed voice in your treatment goals.

Feeling heard and understood is the foundation of healing.

You’re here because the self-help books, coping skills, relaxation techniques, hobbies, or even therapy wasn’t enough.

I recognize the motivation to be on this page because taking medications for your mental health is usually the first solution that comes to mind for many people.

Don’t get me wrong, these habits that I just listed can be so powerful for your mental health. But it’s likely you feel like you’ve already exhausted the non-medicinal options (and your own motivation) to feel better. Either it feels like what you’ve already tried only takes you so far, or your own mental health keeps you from practicing healthy habits.

Getting help from me looks different for everyone. For some people it’s about seeking a evaluation to better understand why you feel out of control, to re-assessing medications that you’re already taking to make sure you’re getting the best benefits out of them, or even it being your first time seeking psychiatric care and wanting to know how I can help you.

Wherever you are at in your mental health journey, I’ll join you as a team member and start there.

Imagine the weight of your mental health lifting off your shoulders so that you feel more motivated to take on life - that relief is my goal for you.”

My philosophy on taking medications and supplements for your mental health is that it’s not meant to cure everything that’s going on, but set a more balanced foundation so that you can break what seemed to be the upper limit barrier of help from those self-help books, coping skills, relaxation techniques, hobbies, or therapy and even be enjoyable in the process.

What I don’t like is trading one issues for the other so my goal with medication management is to minimize the side effects and maximize the benefits. We should be finding a system that works for you sustainably, not just “bandaids” the problem.

There’s two main mental health fields: medication management and therapy. I’m on the medication management side of care, though I do have a degree in social work. I use that degree to help close the gap and support you holistically.

As an Asian American myself, I'm an advocate for taking into account of any cultural or identity considerations in your care.

Care with Me is a Patient-Centered Approach

  • Two hands holding a rose petal in a gentle, caring manner.

    Compassion

Patients should not feel like just a number in a clinic. I like to practice therapeutic communication throughout appointments and get to know my patients more than just the medications that they take. If a patient is working with a therapist, I like to check in on what their recent therapy goals are and relate that into my own work of support their wellbeing.

  • Silhouette of five people on a mountain peak at sunrise, two reaching out to assist each other.

    Teamwork

I oftentimes tell my patients that there is no one-size-fits-all treatment. I want my patients to feel comfortable throughout their experience under my care and part of supporting this commitment is through giving them a voice knowing that they are the ones who take the medications at the end of the day.

  • Family group hug with two adults and two children, smiling and embracing.

    Safety

Safety is always my number one priority. To support my patients both short-term and long-term, I feel most comfortable prescribing medications that will also be safe and comfortable for short-term and long-term use. I stay up-to-date on evidence-based research.

  • Waterfall flowing over rocks surrounded by dense forest, with logs in the water, viewed in a circular frame.

    Open-Mindedness

There is no one way to live life, and I believe that there is no room for judgment when it comes to caring for someone's mental health. I accept all my patients for who they are and encourage them to be themselves when they work with me, both during and outside of appointments.
